Crime Movies

Crime is one of cinema’s oldest and most beloved genres. The Top 250 list covers a wide range of it, from mafia family sagas spanning generations and heists told hour by hour to detectives hunting serial killers and ordinary people who stumble into wrongdoing by accident.

The best crime films are less interested in the crime itself than in the people who commit it. The Godfather plays like a tragedy about power and family loyalty, while Pulp Fiction turns the rules of the genre into a game with its fractured structure. The Silence of the Lambs transforms fear into a duel of wits. Most of the crime films on this list also overlap with drama, thriller or mystery.
